Yep,
another guy obsessed enough to build a web site specifically for
his car...
Check out the
Timeline section to see how reliable
my car really is. Pictures section contains
the latest pics of my ride. Check out the Upgrades
section to see much money it costs to go fast. Horsepower
contains dyno graphs and some 1/4 mile passes. The Specs
section contains factory specification.
2001
Season
I bought my 1988 Supra early in the fall and I instantly fell in
love. The high torque this “undersquare” engine develops
at such a low RPM still amazes me. Racing was limited to a great
kill (depending how you look at it) on green 97 SVT Mustang. This
happened at the last set of lights before C.O.P. on the #1 Highway.
He killed my off the line by 5 car lengths but I slowly pulled on
him after that. By the time the turbo spooled in 5th gear I was
side by side with him and continued to accelerate until 220 Km/h
where I passed him by 1 car and slowed down and let him pass. A
brand new Trans AM on John Laurie put me in my place several times
in a row later this season. All I could do was stare at 4 exhaust
pipes looking back at me. After driving home that night my car was
experiencing symptoms of a blown head gasket. Coolant bubbled up
in the overflow container and a few days later over heated on my
way to work. The Supra was towed back into my garage were it would
sit for the winter.
2002
Season
I towed the Supra into Import
Car Service to get a new head gasket installed. A cracked cylinder
head was found (between chamber 5 and 6) and a chipped #5 piston
with a scratched bore. The turbo was missing some fins and needed
to be rebuilt as well. This season was off to a bad start since
I didn’t get the rebuild finished until early July. The break-in
period was frustrating since I told myself I wouldn't use the turbo
until I hit 3000Km. Then 3 weeks into June the valve seals blew
out and heaps of smoke was present during start up. Nevertheless,
I remain undefeated with every car I raced on the streets or highway.
Later this season the valve seals were replaced and the smoke instantly
disappeared. I was able to sneak in a great dyno run late in the
season.
2003
Season
The best season so far. A few minor repairs - my clutch master cylinder
finally let go but this daily driver didn't miss a day. I finally
had my 3" exhaust completed from elbow to muffler tip - what
a huge difference - the Supra now feels 300 lbs lighter. I was able
to squeeze in 3 track runs. Hit my goal of 100 MPH done with stock
turbo, stock fuel system and stock intercooler. My clutch let go
on the final run when I power shifted from 3rd to 4th so that kept
me out the 13s for this year... Over the winter I hope to change
over to the Lexus AFM and 550cc injectors and custom build an intercooler
and if funds permit a T3/T4 or 20G turbo....
